After leading the New York Jets to a big win, quarterback Justin Fields got emotional during his post-game interview — but not for the reason fans might expect.
“When I was out on the field, I was about to start crying,” Fields said. “But not because we won, but just because of the goodness of God.”
Fields, who’s spoken before about his faith guiding him through the ups and downs of his career, shared that this week had been especially emotional.
“I found myself in my closet crying on the ground,” he said. “Not because of the hardships, not because of the troubles — I felt like I was built to handle that. But in that moment, when I was talking to my best friend about how hard it was and just not wavering faith-wise, I had gotten a text from my sister and my stepmom. It was just an encouraging text on, you know, just keep going and keep spreading the faith.”
He said those words reminded him of what matters most.
“Yesterday I was just praying over and over again, like, yo, this is just one win,” Fields said. “All that to say, God is real, God is good, and everything we go through in this life is for a purpose.”
“It’s been a lot for me emotionally, spiritually. When I was on the field, I was damn near about to start crying, not because we won but because of the goodness of God.”
Fields continues, “I’m going to get pretty vulnerable right here. This week I found myself in my closet… pic.twitter.com/WrmgPUfmOc

It wasn’t the first time Fields spoke openly about faith. At the start of the season, he shared that he’s “low-key addicted” to reading his Bible every day and uses the routines of his faith to keep him grounded besides the wins and losses.
