*A Note About the World English Bible
In the 1880s, a group of Bible scholars in England produced the English Revised Version. The goal of the ERV was to update the English of the KJV to a more readable and accurate English translation. In 1901, a group of 30 Bible scholars from the United States published an extremely accurate English version based on the ERV. These scholars named their new version the American Standard Version (ASV). This version soon became one of the most popular Bible translations available because of its textual accuracy.
Today, the American Standard Version is more than a century old. The text is still very accurate as it relates to the manuscripts, but the English language has changed considerably in the last 120 years. The World English Bible (WEB) is an updated English translation of the American Standard Version. It has preserved the accuracy of the ASV and rendered the language more reader-friendly. We believe that you will find that this version does an excellent job of conveying God’s message to a modern English-speaking audience.
