Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has been one of the most electric players in the NFL this season, but if you ask him, his success has nothing to do with him.
“First, I just want to give all glory and praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Stroud said in a postgame interview. “Without Him, I’m nothing. I’m a broken, wretched, sinful man. He saved me time and time again. I just put my confidence in Him. Whenever I lack self-confidence, I have God-confidence.”
The 23-year-old star has never shied away from talking about his faith, even as he continues to rise as one of the league’s brightest young talents. Stroud has been open about how faith carried him through his father’s incarceration, the pressure of being a top draft pick and the intense spotlight that comes with being Houston’s franchise quarterback.
“My strength doesn’t come from myself, it doesn’t come from others,” Stroud said earlier this year. “It comes from the Lord. I genuinely mean that. My joy comes from the Lord. My happiness.”
