Dear Digger Doug,
Why is Jesus called the Son of Man if He is the Son of God?
Dear Luke,
Before Jesus came to Earth, He was “with God [the Father and Spirit] and He was God” (read John 1:1). That is hard for us to understand. In Philippians 2:5-8, we read that Jesus was “in the form of God” before being born to Mary. The passage also says that when He came to Earth, He came “in the likeness of men.” While He was on Earth, in an amazing and fascinating way, He was somehow both 100% God and 100% man at the same time. We can try to imagine illustrations for this. For instance, suppose you have the new Meta AI glasses. They are a computer, but they are still glasses. So, you could say you are wearing a computer, or you could say you are wearing glasses, and you would be correct both ways. Or suppose you lived in the future, and you drove a car that could also fly like a plane. You could say you rode in your car, and you rode in your plane, and you would be right. Of course, no illustration can capture the nature of Jesus perfectly, but when He was on Earth, He was the Son of God and the Son of Man at the same time.
