Testimony 3 Minutes

A comprehensive guide to testimony 3 minutes

3 min read

Your testimony is the most powerful evangelism tool you have. It's your story of what Jesus did for you—and nobody can argue with it.

You don't need to be a Bible scholar. You don't need to have all the answers. You just need to share what happened: your life before Jesus, how you met Him, and how your life has changed.

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.

Revelation 12:11 (KJV)

The goal: Share your testimony in

3 minutes

—short enough to keep attention, long enough to tell the story.

The 3-Part Framework

Every effective testimony follows this structure:

1

Before: My Life Before Jesus

Time: ~1 minute

Describe your life before Christ. What were you searching for? What was missing? What struggles did you have?

Key Questions

  • What was I like before Jesus?

  • What was I searching for?

  • What was the emptiness I felt?

  • What sin or struggle defined me?

Warning: Don't glorify sin. Don't give unnecessary details. Focus on the emptiness, not the specifics of your sin.

2

During: How I Met Jesus

Time: ~1 minute

Describe the moment you encountered Jesus. How did it happen? Who spoke to you? What verse convicted you? What was the turning point?

Key Questions

  • What led me to Jesus?

  • Who shared the Gospel with me?

  • What specific moment did I surrender?

  • What did I pray?

This is the Gospel moment. Make it clear that salvation is through Jesus alone, not good works.

3

After: How Jesus Changed My Life

Time: ~1 minute

Describe how Jesus transformed you. What's different now? What has He freed you from? What joy, peace, or purpose do you now have?

Key Questions

  • What changed immediately?

  • What struggles did Jesus heal?

  • What peace or joy do I have now?

  • How is my life different?

Be honest. Don't pretend life is perfect. But show how Jesus made it better.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Too long:

Don't go past 3-4 minutes. You'll lose people.

Too vague:

"Jesus changed my life" isn't enough. Be specific.

Too focused on sin:

Don't glorify your past. Focus on the transformation.

Too churchy:

Avoid religious jargon. Speak like a normal person.

No Gospel:

Make sure you mention Jesus, sin, grace, and salvation.

No emotions:

Your testimony should feel real, not robotic.

Example Testimony

BEFORE

I grew up thinking religion was for weak people. I was successful, confident, and didn't need God. But deep down, I was miserable. I had everything the world said would make me happy—but I felt empty.

DURING

A co-worker invited me to church. I went to prove him wrong. But when the pastor talked about Jesus dying for my sins, something broke in me. I realized I wasn't self-sufficient—I was lost. I prayed that night: 'Jesus, if You're real, save me.'

AFTER

Jesus changed everything. I'm not perfect, but I have peace. The emptiness is gone. I have purpose now. My life isn't easier, but it's better. Because I'm not living for myself anymore—I'm living for the One who died for me.
