30 Days in God's Word
Bible Reading Plan for New Believers
Why This Plan
The first weeks after trusting Christ are foundational. This 30-day reading plan immerses you in the most accessible portions of Scripture—starting with the life and words of Jesus, then branching into practical wisdom and assurance of salvation. By the end of the month you will have read through an entire Gospel, tasted the wisdom literature, and grounded yourself in the love of God.
Week 1: The Gospel of John (Days 1–7)
John's Gospel was written explicitly "that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name" (John 20:31). Each day covers roughly three chapters, letting you meet Jesus through His miracles, teachings, and sacrificial love.
- Day 1 – John 1–3: The Word made flesh, Nicodemus, born again
- Day 2 – John 4–6: Woman at the well, Bread of Life
- Day 3 – John 7–9: Living water, the Light of the world
- Day 4 – John 10–12: The Good Shepherd, Lazarus raised
- Day 5 – John 13–15: The Last Supper, the True Vine
- Day 6 – John 16–18: The Comforter, Gethsemane, the trial
- Day 7 – John 19–21: The Cross, the empty tomb, restoration
Week 2: The Book of James (Days 8–12)
James is the most practical book in the New Testament—a manual for living out your faith. In five chapters you will encounter wisdom on trials, temptation, taming the tongue, humility, and prayer. "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only" (James 1:22).
Week 3: First John (Days 13–17)
John's first epistle was written so that believers "may know that ye have eternal life" (1 John 5:13). These five chapters are saturated with assurance, love, and the marks of genuine salvation. One chapter per day with time to journal and reflect.
Week 4: Selected Psalms & Proverbs (Days 18–25)
The Psalms teach you how to pray and worship; Proverbs teaches you how to live wisely. Highlighted readings include Psalm 1, 23, 27, 51, 91, 119:1–16, and selected Proverbs on wisdom, speech, and integrity. These passages become lifelong companions for every believer.
Days 26–30: Romans 1–8
The first eight chapters of Romans form the greatest theological summary in all of Scripture. You will trace the human problem (sin), God's solution (justification by faith), the believer's freedom (no condemnation), and the security of the saved (nothing can separate us). Romans 8:28 alone has carried countless believers through their darkest hours.
Tips for Success
- Read at the same time each day—morning is ideal, before the world's noise begins
- Use a physical Bible (KJV) alongside a journal to write down one verse that stands out
- Pray before reading: "Lord, open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law" (Psalm 119:18)
- Don't worry if you miss a day—pick up where you left off without guilt
- Share what you're learning with a fellow believer or your church group
